The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)’s digitalisation efforts are accelerating as the region advances its plans for a fully integrated economic community by 2025. As both the ASEAN Economic Community Blueprint (AEC 2025) and the ASEAN Digital Integration Framework Action Plan (DIFAP) 2019-2025 show, it is urgent for ASEAN Member States (AMS) to further modernise and align trade platforms and mechanisms to effectively support digitally enabled trade in the region.

From the digitalisation of physical infrastructure and the integration of logistical networks to the optimisation of trade policies, several region-wide initiatives have the potential to transform supply chains, enhance the volume and value of trade, and grow and expand digital trade in the region. Of particular relevance is the way cross-border transactions can be made more seamless through paperless trading initiatives such as central portals for international buyers and sellers to connect and transact online.
